Our Approach

At Bayside Psychiatry, we provide thoughtful, holistic, evidence based treatment that is always person centered. We know that every person’s situation is different. That is why we work with our patients, as a team, to find a well rounded plan that fits meaningfully into their life.

Your first appointment at Bayside Psychiatry is when we’ll start to get to know you most. We schedule all of our intake appointments for 60-90 minutes to make sure that we have plenty of time to get a a detailed sense of who you are, and what is going on. During this time we’ll be asking a lot of questions, such as when certain symptoms might have started or what treatments you tried before coming to Bayside Psychiatry. We’ll also get a thorough medical history, including other medical problems, chronic illnesses, or allergies, and spend a lot of time getting to know about your day to day life (are you a student, working, or is your mental health making those difficult; what do you enjoy doing when you’re not sick; who is important in your life?)

Good treatment comes from good diagnosis. That is why I think a meaningful discussion about what to label the things you are experiencing is extremely important. Many times people come to me and have never been told what the underlying process is. Sometimes medicine is the most important treatment option, while other times focusing on therapy skills relationships, or healthy behaviors might be even more effective. Knowing what is going on, and having an open conversation about it, is one of the most important first steps in effective care. Our focus today may be different from our focus tomorrow too. That is why I believe this is an ongoing conversation that continues for the entire time we work together.
